The Northwest Region Design Office has a great opportunity for a Design Team Leader to join our team. The Design Team Leader is responsible for delivering assigned projects within scope, schedule, and budget while developing direct reports to become future leaders of the Department. As a project manager, this role actively makes an impact to WSDOT's mission by providing and supporting safe, reliable and cost effective transportation options to improve livable communities and economic vitality for people and businesses in the state.

This position will perform the following work:

Utilize the available resources to manage the day-to-day activities of assigned projects to ensure successful delivery and ensure deliverables meet current standards and guidelines. Prepare and update project management plans; prepare and resource loading project schedules; update and manage project schedules; prepare design documentation files, environmental documentation, right of way plans, PS&E's; update aging reports, earned value charts, and other related project management activities. Manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned projects. Coordinate projects with various in-house support groups and with external customers Identify and track risks. Supervise and coach subordinate staff to maximize performance within their current roles and to prepare them for future roles. Help deliver projects for the Fish Passage program. Other duties as assigned.

At a minimum, an ideal candidate will have:

Two (2) years as a Transportation Engineer 2

or equivalent experience Bachelor's degree in engineering EIT or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Valid Driver's License. Proficient knowledge and skillful application of project management practices. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Exceptional leadership skills and supervisory sensibilities. Proven ability to adapt to change and initiative for continuous improvement. Outstanding organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Washington Professional Engineer (PE) License in Civil Engineering or another state in the US. License holders from other states will be expected to obtain a WA state PE license within 3 months of employment. Three (3) years of increasing responsibilities in performing roadway design work. Experience supervising engineering staff.
